Dear

If you or your client use our API then please pay attention to this important announcement as it will affect you going forward.

Back when we published the Lighthouse API, we decided to publish it on the api.guardian360.dev domain. We thought it would be cool to use the “.dev” TLD to better demonstrate its purpose; an API for developers. Over the years we have experienced some downsides of this domain, however.

Primarily, while the domain reflects the Lighthouse API, it does not itself explain it. The domain api.guardian360.dev itself does not tell you about its relationship with Lighthouse and this complicates development for our customers.

Secondly, we prefer using the “.dev" TLD for staging purposes. This way we can use consistent looking URLs for our products in different environments with the only difference being the TLD.

Thirdly, since the paths used to access the API are equally named “/api”, we thought that it was a bit verbose and unnecessary for the URL to contain the word “api” twice (e.g., https://api.guardian360.dev/api/V1/issues).

Lastly, in breaking with convention, the letter “V” in the API version is currently capitalised.

For these reasons, we have decided to deprecate the api.guardian360.dev domain for one that makes more sense. Our Lighthouse API will remain available on an already existing domain, lighthouse.guardian360.nl.

For example, if you want to fetch a list of issues, you can send a HTTP GET request to:

https://lighthouse.guardian360.nl/api/v1/issues

Dissecting this URL will provide much of information out of the box. We can clearly tell we are requesting the Lighthouse API using version 1 to get issues.

We advise all Lighthouse API users and consumers to update the Lighthouse API domain from the now deprecated api.guardian360.dev to lighthouse.guardian360.nl. The old Lighthouse API domain will stop working on February 1st, 2024.
